Hello, my name is Colleen Mlynczak. I am a registered Social Worker (RSW) with the Alberta College of Social Workers. I have earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology Degree from Mount Royal University and a Master of Social Work Degree (clinical) from University of British Columbia. I was born and raised in Calgary and have practiced as a social worker, therapist, and counsellor for over 8 years.
Overall, I approach clinical practice from a client-centred and trauma-informed perspective, oftentimes utilizing attachment and developmental models as a foundation. In keeping with this perspective, I tend to use an eclectic approach that incorporates therapeutic interventions that align with the client’s goals, beliefs, and values. I generally utilize a blend of approaches which often include mindfulness-based practice, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, cognitive processing therapy, as well as goal-focused and strength-based approaches. I also incorporate a social work perspective to ensure that all health factors are taken into consideration and addressed. This perspective allows for ongoing assessment that evolves over the course of therapy, allowing adjustments to be made as priorities or goals change.

My goal, as a social worker and mental health therapist is to help individuals, couples, and older adults navigate life's challenges. I use an eclectic approach that respects each client's individuality. I tailor my therapeutic interventions to suit the client's beliefs, values, and goals. Always keeping in mind the importance of integrating factors such as psychological wellness, physical health, spiritual well-being, and various other social factors.

I offer a variety of evidence-based counselling services, including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD as well as Gottman Method Couples Therapy. My integrative approach can effectively help individuals who suffer from depression, anxiety, insomnia, low self-esteem, childhood trauma, complicated grief, PTSD, age related adjustment, stress, dysregulation, and/or relationship problems.

My approach is rooted in empathy, compassion, and non-judgment. I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where my clients feel comfortable exploring their thoughts and emotions, and where they can develop the skills and tools they need to thrive. It is important to me that my services are accessible to those in need. Therefore, as a standard of practice, I offer affordable counselling options that are below industry standard. I also offer individuals who are facing undo hardship sliding scale and, in some cases, pro-bono services.
